The Mortgage Bankers Association released a new MBANow video featuring MBA Vice President of Residential Policy and Member Engagement Tamara King, who discusses ongoing projects involving the MBA member-led Diversity & Inclusion Committee.

The video can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMDn_WVA0lk&feature=em-uploademail.

The fourth annual MBA Diversity & Inclusion Summit takes place Dec. 4-5 in Washington, D.C. King said Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Mel Watt will keynote the Summit. “We will spend time talking about diversity and inclusion issues, but will also spend a lot of time discussing lending to diverse communities, particularly Hispanic and African-American communities,” she said.

King noted demographic data have driven lending toward a more diverse customer base over the past several years. “That’s really the growth area,” she said. “If our businesses don’t get creative in thinking about how to lend to new customers, we’re going to be behind the eight-ball.”

King also noted the “inclusion” aspect is just as important as “diversity.”

“We want to make sure you’re maximizing inclusion from a business perspective, and how it is making your culture better, how it’s making your business more competitive and how it is positioning your company to attract the best and brightest talent you can.”
