MBANow Video: Steve Boland on Importance of Diversity Recruiting

The Mortgage Bankers Association, in its latest MBANow video, features Steve Boland, Managing Director for Consumer Lending at Bank of America and member of the MBA Board of Directors, who talked about the importance of recruiting new talent from diverse backgrounds and how a career in mortgage banking can help lenders have an impact on their communities.

Boland has been a member of MBA since the 1990s. “MBA has been one of the most effective voice for the industry,” he said. “They serve two main purposes. First, they have been able to educate people in the industry so that they can educate consumers and other key stakeholders. And second, they have been able to bring together these key stakeholders with divergent points of view and bring consensus on key issues.”

Boland said many young professionals of diverse backgrounds are unaware of opportunities in the real estate finance industry and encouraged them to explore those opportunities. “It’s gratifying to be able to give back to you own community,” he said.

Boland also shares his #MyMBAStory, a new feature where MBA leaders from all backgrounds talk about how they got into mortgage banking, what it means to them and why young people should get involved in the industry.
