MBANow: MBA Chief Economist Mike Fratantoni on MBA Forecast; Opens Doors Foundation Video

The Mortgage Bankers Association released two new MBANow videos.

In the first (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyZVfvcNiLY&feature=em-uploademail), MBA Chief Economist Mike Fratantoni discusses MBA’s latest economic and mortgage finance forecast and macroeconomic conditions affecting mortgage rates and the housing market in 2017 and beyond.

The MBA forecast calls for a drop in overall mortgage origination volume in 2017, to $1.6 trillion from $1.9 trillion. But Fratantoni noted that purchase origination volume is expected to top $1 trillion for the first time since 2007.

“We’re looking for the Federal Reserve to make another rate hike in December and three times in 2017,” Fratantoni said. “We think the Fed is on its way to probably getting the federal funds target to about 3 percent within a few years, but at a slow and steady pace.”

The MBA economic forecasts are available at http://www.mba.org.

A separate MBANow video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWPqnea9sXk&feature=em-uploademail) comes from the recent MBA Annual Convention & Expo that touts the MBA Opens Doors Foundation.

The video includes interviews with several recipients of Opens Doors assistance who describe their struggles and their gratitude to MBA members for financial support that enabled them to remain in their homes while they or loved ones received medical treatment from participating MBA Opens Doors hospitals.
