Whole Loan Trading Workshop (Speaker Proposal Deadline:  August 15)

MBA will host a one-day workshop on November 10 in Phoenix focused on the expanding market in whole loan trading. MBA has issued a Call for Speakers for this workshop with an Aug. 15 deadline.

Many community banks and other portfolio investors have become active buyers of whole loan mortgages on a flow or bulk basis. Key drivers of this trend include high credit pricing charged by the agencies, particularly for so-called “niche” products, such as co-ops, non-warrantable condos, etc.

Additionally, the scratch and dent market remains critical for lenders, particularly for loans with TRID issues. The market for seasoned performing loans has also picked up as many institutions work to optimize their asset-liability strategy.

This workshop will feature expert speakers who are involved in the buying and selling of whole loans, as well as those engaged in servicing transactions coupled with these trades. Panel topics will include:

–Opportunities in the traditional correspondent market

–The growing market for NPLs and RPL

–An overview of the market for seasoned performing loans

–A discussion of the scratch-and-dent market, especially in light of TRID challenges

–Effective techniques for bridging the ‘cultural expectations’ between community banks and independent mortgage bankers.

–Examples of successful whole loan transactions between independent mortgage bankers and depositories.

–Identifying and developing successful counterparties for bulk and flow transactions.

MBA offers a one-day workshop on December 15 in Charlotte, N.C. to bring together mortgage lenders who have met or exceeded CRA requirements, with those who wish to improve or expand upon their CRA mortgage lending programs. Regulatory developments as well as practical case studies and best practices will be covered.

Included will be perspectives on originating vs buying CRA-eligible loans to meet established goals. Lenders will discuss product and sales management, loan officer organizational structures and incentives to promote CRA-type lending.
–Selling CRA Loans/CRA Trading: How lenders are acquiring and selling CRA loans to other banks who may need these loans to meet their goals.
