MBA CRA Mortgage Lending Workshop 2016 (Speaker Proposal Deadline: August 30)

Summary
The Community Reinvestment Act was enacted in 1977 to encourage federally insured banking institutions (commercial banks and savings associations) to help meet the credit needs of their communities, including low and moderate income households in their service area.

MBA offers a one-day workshop on December 15 in Charlotte, N.C. to bring together mortgage lenders who have met or exceeded CRA requirements, with those who wish to improve or expand upon their CRA mortgage lending programs. Regulatory developments as well as practical case studies and best practices will be covered.

Panel topics will include:
–Regulatory Overview and Developments: CRA explained and updated guidance on evaluation methods and expected documentation.
–The CRA Challenge: Hear from a panel of lenders who have designed plans and strategies for meeting and exceeding CRA goals and/or ratings after initial struggles. Included will be perspectives on originating vs buying CRA-eligible loans to meet established goals.
–CRA Trading: How lenders are acquiring and selling CRA loans to other banks who may need these loans to meet their CRA goals.
–Education and Marketing: How lenders are “getting the word out” about their CRA-targeted loan programs. Also covered will be ways to educate both borrowers and company employees on CRA and methods to track CRA performance in real-time.
–The Interrelationship between CRA, Fair Lending, and HMDA: How new requirements and guidance are going to impact lenders, along with potential pitfalls and what to do about them.
