WalletHub Deems Arizona Cities Best Places to Rent

WalletHub, Miami, released a new analysis of the best and worst places to rent in the U.S., with three Arizona cities taking the top spots.
The analysis looked at more than 180 rental markets based on 21 measures of rental attractiveness and quality of life.
“In the best cities for renters, rent can cost you as little as around 15% of your income. You’ll also have access to robust laws that protect renters, such as limiting deposits to only a month or two of rent,” explained WalletHub Analyst Chip Lupo. “Our study also considers quality-of-life factors such as a city’s traffic congestion, job market or recreation options to make sure you can get a good living experience, not just inexpensive housing.”
The top spot was Scottsdale, Ariz., largely driven by quality-of-life factors. It topped the list for availability of jobs and driving environment. It has the 57th-best rental affordability, and most renters spend under 22% of their annual income on rent.
Gilbert, Ariz., took the No. 2 spot, with the 10th-highest average home square footage in the country, and the 37th-best rental affordability. The average person only spends about 21% of their annual income on rent.
And, Chandler, Ariz., came in third, with most people only spending 21% of their annual income on rent and featuring homes with large square footage.
No. 4 is Overland Park, Kan., and No. 5 is Columbia, Md.
The cities ranking at the bottom of WalletHub’s list include Detroit, Cleveland, Jackson, Miss., Memphis, Tenn., and Akron, Ohio.
