MBA Education Announces Rebranding of CRE Basics to CREF Academy
By Gail Griffith-Roch, MBA’s associate vice president of Commercial/Multifamily Education Content
At the Commercial Real Estate Finance (CREF) Convention and Expo in San Diego, MBA Education announced the rebranding of its Commercial Real Estate Basics course offerings to Commercial/Multifamily Real Estate Finance (CREF) Academy marking a significant evolution in its commercial and multifamily education offerings.

Formerly known as Commercial Real Estate Basics, CREF Academy offers eight standalone courses designed exclusively for real estate finance professionals. Each course may be taken independently, allowing participants to focus on the topics most relevant to their roles, while together the courses form a comprehensive curriculum covering the full commercial and multifamily lending process.
The coursework addresses key areas including ownership fundamentals; financial analysis and valuation; borrower credit analysis; assessment of physical and environmental risk; and the roles involved in closing, legal review, and loan servicing. Through a combination of in-depth instruction and practical application, the courses enable participants to strengthen their expertise and apply advanced knowledge in their professional roles.
The rebrand reflects the program’s expanded scope and establishes the Commercial Real Estate Finance Professional Certificate, along with a CREDLY digital badge, awarded to participants who successfully complete the full eight-course curriculum. The certificate recognizes participants broad-based training and proficiency in commercial and multifamily real estate finance.
The curriculum may also serve as a valuable refresher for professionals preparing for the Chartered Realty Investor (CRI®) designation and its associated exams. The eight courses include:
• Introduction to Commercial/Multifamily Real Estate (On-Demand)
• Multifamily Underwriting and Investment Analysis
• Office Underwriting and Investment Analysis
• Retail Underwriting and Investment Analysis
• Applied Commercial/Multifamily Appraisal and Valuation Methods
• Commercial/Multifamily Borrower Credit and Financial Analysis
• Assessing Commercial/Multifamily Physical and Environmental Risk
• Commercial/Multifamily Loan Servicing
