SAN DIEGO–The Mortgage Bankers Association formally recognized two member firms, Northmarq and Berkadia, here at its 2025 Commercial/Multifamily Finance Convention and Expo.

Laura Escobar, 2025 MBA Chair and President of Lennar Mortgage, noted both Northmarq and Berkadia have developed programs and initiatives that have had positive impacts on each of their company’s culture, bottom lines, and the communities they serve.

Northmarq received the Organizational Award, which celebrates company initiatives designed to increase inclusion within the leadership and employee base of MBA member companies. The firm received the award for its longstanding commitment to recruiting and retaining diverse talent within commercial real estate. Michael Chase, Managing Director with Northmarq, accepted the award.

Berkadia received MBA’s Market & Community Outreach Strategies Award, which recognizes company initiatives specifically developed and designed to increase outreach, marketing, and products to attract customers from the industry’s fastest-growing market segments. Amanda Tyrrell-Shooster, Events Manager with Berkadia, accepted the award on behalf of her company.

Berkadia’s research found that of 112,000 commercial real estate development companies, only 1,000 are minority-owned. Since conducting this research, it launched the Berkadia ONE Forum, an industry-leading event designed to promote the interests of Black-led commercial real estate firms and executives of color.
