Stephanie Milner Joins MBA CREF Team
The Mortgage Bankers Association named Stephanie Milner its new Associate Vice President of Multifamily. Her first day at MBA was Tuesday, Feb. 1.
“Stephanie joins MBA from Fannie Mae, so she has with a wealth of experience and knowledge on the GSEs,” said Mike Flood, MBA Senior Vice President of Commercial/Multifamily Policy and Member Engagement. “Her experience includes heading Fannie Mae’s COVID response team, serving as a Director on the Capital Markets and Structured Transactions teams and as an attorney focused on affordable housing and multifamily housing bonds. I’m excited to welcome her to MBA.”
Milner noted most of her 15 years at Fannie Mae involved working on the capital markets team, negotiating and managing structured deals for both single-family and multifamily. “I also spent five years at Fannie Mae leading industry readiness for the Uniform Mortgage-Backed Security that launched in June 2019,” she said. “That initiative was a significant change to the single-family mortgage-backed securities market and my role was to ensure industry participants, including lenders, investors, dealers and vendors, were ready.”
HousingWire named Milner a Woman of Influence in 2019 based on the success of the UMBS launch.
Earlier in her career at Fannie Mae, Milner managed the issuance and product development of mortgage-backed structured transactions including Real Estate Mortgage Investment Conduits, Stripped Mortgage-Backed Securities and Mega Pools. “I managed the process of pricing, cash flow modeling, legal document creation and settlement of various types of mortgage-backed security transactions,” she said. “I also managed all relevant interaction with the Federal Housing Finance Agency, including negotiating annual scorecard milestones.”
Milner also practiced law in New Orleans and Atlanta, where she focused on affordable housing and structured finance, especially tax-exempt multifamily and single-family housing bonds. She acted as bond counsel, developer’s counsel, trustee’s counsel and bond insurer’s counsel at Adams & Reese LLP and Kutak Rock LLP.
“One reason I was interested in coming to MBA was because, looking back at my time leading the industry effort on the UMBS launch and practicing law, I really loved helping industry stakeholders be successful, as well as the various aspects of policy,” Milner said. “I am excited to be a part of MBA and I look forward to serving and working with our members.”
