Miranda Dean Joins The Calida Group As Vice President of Capital Markets

The Calida Group, a vertically integrated multifamily investment and development firm, announced Miranda Dean joined the firm as a Vice President of Capital Markets.

Dean will support all capital markets activity for the company on multiple strategic initiatives. She brings more than a decade of experience in the commercial real estate and fintech spaces, having specialized in debt origination, capital raising from both domestic and international investors, investor relations and business operations.

Dean joined The Calida Group from Archer Real Estate, where she held the position of Investment Sale Broker. In her previous roles, she oversaw Debt Originations and Underwriting, as well as SMA Portfolio Management, at Nuveen Real Estate.


Freddie Mac Multifamily Announces Two Senior Vice Presidents

Freddie Mac Multifamily, McLean, Va., announced two Senior Vice President roles. Steve Johnson will be head of Production & Sales — a position he has served in on an interim basis since May. Bill Buskirk will become Chief Operating Officer responsible for asset management, loan administration and servicing, counterparty risk management, marketing and communications, business strategy and board reporting, and business insights. Buskirk previously served as Chief Financial Officer for the division.

Johnson and Buskirk will report to Kevin Palmer, who was named head of Multifamily for Freddie Mac in May.

Johnson is a 22-year veteran of Freddie Mac. Prior to leading Multifamily’s Production & Sales team, he served as vice president of Small Balance Lending and Targeted Affordable Housing. He stood up Freddie Mac’s SBL initiative, helping establish an efficient execution for 5- to 50-unit properties, which provide a significant amount of the nation’s workforce housing. Johnson also oversaw substantial growth in Multifamily’s TAH business, including a substantial expansion of all four of its segments, including immediates, forwards, structured transactions and LIHTC equity investments. As interim head of Production & Sales, he has led the sourcing, originating and structuring of all Multifamily loan products.

Buskirk has served as Multifamily Chief Financial Officer for nearly 13 years and has been with Freddie Mac since 2002. As CFO, he was instrumental in informing the strategic direction of the Multifamily business, with responsibilities ranging from financial and business reporting and accounting to budgeting and forecasting. Buskirk has long served as a key advisor to the segment’s leadership, providing support for pricing approaches, capital allocations and earnings optimization while supporting Freddie Mac’s affordable housing mission. He began his career at Arthur Andersen.


Northmarq Opens New Miami Office

Northmarq expanded its debt and equity platform in south Florida with the addition of Senior Vice President Jaspaul Kapoor and Vice Presidents Garrett Stasand and David Henney.

The team will open a debt/equity office located in Miami’s financial center, Brickell, where they will collaborate alongside Northmarq’s Fort Lauderdale-based Bob Harrington. The combined team will be responsible for originating, underwriting and closing debt and equity financing for commercial and multifamily properties in the Miami MSA and southwestern Florida. They will be an integral part of the company’s plan to continue expansion in the region.

Kapoor will be responsible for executing financing assignments with a specialization in multifamily and government agency lending programs. Prior to joining Northmarq, he gained experience with various real estate asset classes and held capital markets roles at CBRE, Newmark, and Arch Bay Capital – a fund manager specializing in opportunistic real estate debt investments. Prior to Arch Bay Capital, Kapoor held a business development role at S&P Global. He has participated in the sale, purchase, and financing of real estate assets totaling in excess of $6 billion.

Stasand focuses on the private buyer market and he specializes in commercial financing; more specifically retail, office, and industrial lending. Prior to Northmarq, Stasand spent over five years at CBRE’s capital markets division in Phoenix, where he successfully worked nationwide, providing debt needs to his clients.

Henney specializes in originating multifamily debt for clients across the United States. Prior to Northmarq, Henney financed multifamily projects at CBRE after spending years brokering the sales of redevelopment sites and apartment buildings in Los Angeles.
