MBA Presents Byron Boston with 2021 CREF Distinguished Service Award
The Mortgage Bankers Association awarded Byron Boston, CEO, President and Co-Chief Investment Officer of Dynex Capital Inc., Glen Allen, Va., with the 2021 Commercial Real Estate Finance Distinguished Service Award at its MBA LIVE CREF21: Lending, Investing, Servicing and Technology Convention & Expo.
“Byron is the embodiment of an innovative, selfless and inclusive leader in commercial real estate finance. It is truly my honor to present him with this year’s award,” said Susan Stewart, 2021 MBA Chair and CEO of SWBC Mortgage Corp., San Antonio. “Byron’s confident presence and wisdom continues to benefit our industry, especially over the past year from the market challenges brought on by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.”
During his 30-year career, Boston has held a number of leadership positions in the asset management/investment banking community and founded two successful public companies.
Boston is a member of MBA’s Board of Directors and Commercial Real Estate/Multifamily Finance Board of Governors (COMBOG), including serving on COMBOG’s Advisory Committee. He previously served as 2018 COMBOG Chair and as the chair of the 2019 Nominating Committee. Boston is also a member of mPower, (MBA Promoting Opportunities for Women to Extend their Reach), as well as several MBA committees and workgroups, including the Commercial Independent Mortgage Bankers, the C-MF CEO Senior Executive Forum, the CREF Young Professionals Group, Capital Council, Origination Council, Servicer Council Advisory and the Affordable Rental Housing Advisory Council.
“[Bryon] is someone who first seeks to understand, before worrying about being understood,” Stewart said. “That’s an underappreciated but invaluable trait in this business, and something every great captain of any industry should aspire to own.”
“[Byron] is an inclusive leader, and an advocate for our industry, and someone who understands all aspects of the mortgage finance system,” said MBA COO Marcia Davies.
This award is the highest honor an individual can receive from fellow MBA CREF members. Nominees for the CREF Distinguished Service Award must be associated with an MBA member firm, have a record of sustained and extraordinary service to MBA and the commercial/multifamily real estate finance industry and possess a strong reputation of ethical and professional conduct.
