Gerald Hines Passes Away
Gerald Hines, founder and chairman of real estate firm Hines, passed away peacefully at home on August 23.

Born in Gary, Ind., Hines transformed a startup established in Houston in 1957 into a firm with more than 4,800 employees in 225 cities in 25 countries.

The Hines firm has developed more than 907 projects around the world, including 100 buildings taller than 25 stories and the tallest office towers in Texas, Kentucky, New Jersey, Oklahoma and Italy. From 1996-2010, Hines made London his home base, having transferred day-to-day operations to his son, Jeff, who became the firm’s CEO and president in 1990.

Significant Hines projects include 53rd at Third, known as the Lipstick Building in New York; 101 California, San Francisco; One Ninety One Peachtree, Atlanta; Three First National Plaza, Chicago; Five Hundred Boylston, Boston; DZ Bank, Berlin; Porta Nuova, Milan; and EDF Tower, Paris. In addition are Houston landmarks One Shell Plaza; The Galleria; Pennzoil Place; Bank of America Plaza; JPMorgan Chase Tower and Williams Tower.

Hines is survived by his wife, Barbara, four children, 15 grandchildren and one great-grandson. He will be laid to rest in a private family ceremony in Aspen, Colo.

Eastern Equity Advisors Promotes Schuck to Managing Director

Eastern Union affiliate Eastern Equity Advisors promoted Yehuda Schuck to managing director. Eastern Equity Advisors handles Eastern Union’s capital introductions.

In his new role, Schuck will manage and broaden the company’s network of private equity funds, real estate funds, family offices, hedge funds and institutions.

Schuck has been Vice President of Eastern Equity Advisors since August 2017. He has identified and placed nearly all the equity the company has placed since that time.

NorthMarq Expands Investment Sales platform into Mid-Atlantic Region

Wink Ewing and Michael Marshall joined NorthMarq’s multifamily investment sales platform as Managing Directors with Ryan Rilee as Associate Vice President to form a new multifamily investment sales team.

Marshall has more than 30 years of experience in the real estate industry, with 20 years in the multifamily investment sales business. He has completed the sale of 50,000-plus apartment units valued in excess of $7 billion. Ewing has more than 16 years of experience and more than $3 billion in transactions. They both joined NorthMarq after working for Newmark Knight Frank in metro Washington, D.C. and Richmond, Va.

Rilee brings more than 10 years of CRE experience, advising clients on everything from local sub-markets to national capital markets. He previously worked for One South Commercial in investments sales and with CBRE in asset services.
