CBRE Appoints Stearns Chief Financial Officer
CBRE Group, Los Angeles, announced Leah Stearns joined the company as Chief Financial Officer on May 15.
She manages CBRE’s global finance and accounting organization, including tax, treasury, balance sheet management, financial planning and analytics and investor relations. She is based in Dallas.

Stearns previously served as Senior Vice President and CFO for American Tower Corp.’s U.S. division. She joined American Tower, one of the largest global real estate investment trusts, in 2001. She also previously served as Chief Executive Officer of American Tower’s EMEA division.

Waterton Hires Mering as Hospitality Executive Vice President
Waterton, Chicago, hired Matt Mering as Executive Vice President of Hospitality. He will formulate and execute Waterton’s hotel investment strategy, oversee asset management and develop investor relationships.

Mering joins Waterton with more than 23 years of hospitality experience. He most recently served as director of development at Graves Hospitality, where he identified new hospitality development and acquisition opportunities and oversaw the company’s food and beverage operations. Previously he was a principal at Salita Development, where he served as director of development.

The announcement follows Waterton’s recent merger with hospitality management company Waterford Hotel Group.

McDermott Appointed Executive Partner of Holland & Knight’s Boston Office
Law firm Holland & Knight named Diane McDermott the new executive partner of its Boston office. She will oversee the day-to-day management of the office while continuing her real estate practice.

McDermott succeeds Steven Wright, who recently left the firm to join the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston as senior vice president and general counsel. He had served as executive partner of the Boston office since 2008.

McDermott co-chairs Holland & Knight’s National Retail Development and Lending team and sits on the firm’s Real Estate and Hospitality Industry Group leadership team. Her practice focuses on numerous aspects of real estate law, including permitting and development, commercial and retail leasing, acquisitions and dispositions, with a particular emphasis on multifamily housing and the hotel and hospitality industry. She also is the coordinator of the firm’s Women’s Initiative in the Boston office.

MWest Holdings Announces Multifamily Leadership Promotions
MWest Holdings, Los Angeles, announced two multifamily promotions within its Polaris Property Management property management division.

Jackie Ocampo was promoted to Director of Property Management. She has been with Polaris Property Management for more than five years. In that time, she has held the titles of Regional Manager and Senior Regional Manager.

In her new role as Director of Property Management, Ocampo will oversee MWest Holdings’ owned and managed multifamily portfolio across southern California.

Jerry Diaz was promoted to Head of Maintenance. He has been with Polaris Property Management for three years and in his new role will be responsible for all unit upgrades and maintenance for MWest Holdings’ owned and managed multifamily assets across southern California.
