Principal Names Halter Chief Operating Officer of Principal Global Investors

Principal Financial Group, Des Moines, Iowa, announced that Pat Halter, current CEO and senior executive director with Principal Real Estate Investors, will assume the role of chief operating officer for Principal Global Investors.

Halter will continue to lead Principal Real Estate Investors while taking on responsibility for the day-to-day operations of Principal Global Investors, including oversight of several boutiques: Spectrum, Post, Columbus Circle Investors and Principal Portfolio Strategies.

Since joining Principal in 1984 as a commercial real estate representative, Halter has held several leadership positions within PREI before assuming the role of CEO of the boutique. As head of real estate, he is responsible for overall global real estate strategy, new business development, and business management, including oversight of staff in the United States, Europe, Asia and Australia. 

With Halter’s new role, Todd Everett, head of Principal Real Estate Fixed Income, will assume additional duties within Principal Real Estate Investors, including the direct oversight of its private equity segment.

Walker & Dunlop Adds California Team
Walker & Dunlop, Bethesda, Md., hired Mark Strauss and Rob Quarton as Senior Vice President/Managing Director and Assistant Vice President, respectively. They will arrange financing for commercial real estate properties from the firm’s Irvine, Calif., office.  

Strauss and Quarton join from Cohen Financial, where Strauss was a 15-year veteran and founding member of the firm’s Equity Practice. The pair originated, structured and placed debt and structured finance for a wide variety of asset classes.Strauss has more than three decades of commercial real estate finance experience during which he has arranged various forms of debt and equity for over 23,000 apartment units, 7 million square feet of industrial and office space and more than 3million square feet of retail space. Quarton’s commercial real estate career spans 15-plus years working for advisors, capital providers and investors. 

JLL Hires Kline in Phoenix
JLL hired Robert Kline as a Managing Director in its Phoenix office. He will focus on services including debt and equity, commercial mortgage-backed securities loans and foreign capital. 

Kline will partner with Senior Managing Director Dennis Desmond and leaders of the Capital Markets and Finance team, Executive Managing Directors Tom Fish, Tom Melody and Mike Melody.

Kline has nearly 35 years of commercial real estate experience. He previously worked at a global commercial real estate firm and has been directly involved in the disposition of $5.5 billion in assets, $9.7 billion in commercial property restructuring and has completed more than 600 note sales. 

Greystone Adds Managing Director Weber to Agency Lending Team
Greystone, New York, announced that Ken Weber joined the firm as a Managing Director of Underwriting in its agency lending group. 

Bringing over 20 years of experience and overseeing more than $3 billion in transactions in 2016, Weber will contribute to Greystone’s Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac lending businesses.

Prior to joining Greystone, Weber served as Chief Underwriter at Arbor Commercial Mortgage, where he managed operations for its Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac underwriting platforms. Previously, he held various credit/underwriting positions at RCG Longview; Gramercy Capital; and JP Morgan/Chase. 

“Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac continue to offer an excellent permanent financing solution for a variety of borrower needs, whether it be to refinance a large multifamily portfolio or acquire affordable housing, and we are certainly seeing an increase in demand for agency loans,” said Greystone Chief Lending Officer Charlie Baxter.
