Principal Financial Names Houston President and CEO

The Principal Financial Group, Des Moines, Iowa, elected Daniel Houston president and chief executive officer effective August 18. 

Larry Zimpleman will continue to serve as executive chairman of the board and advise Houston as he takes on his new responsibilities.

Houston joined the company in 1984. He was promoted to senior group and pension representative in 1986 and named group and pension consultant in 1988. He was elected an officer and named regional director of group and pension sales in 1990 and promoted to regional vice president in 1993, to vice president in 1997, and to senior vice president in 2000. He was named executive vice president in 2006, president of retirement and investor services in 2008 and chief operating officer in 2014.

HFF Expands Carolinas Presence with Eight-Person Capital Markets Team
Holliday Fenoglio Fowler expanded its Carolinas presence by adding an eight-person capital markets team. The team, formerly of Cushman & Wakefield Thalhimer, will focus on capital markets transactions in the industrial, office, land and multifamily sectors enhancing the current team of Ryan Clutter, Travis Anderson and Cory Fowler.

Chris Norvell joins HFF as a senior managing director with more than 20 years of industry experience and will focus primarily on industrial investment sales throughout the Carolinas and Southeast. During the past eight years, he has completed more than 18 million square feet of industrial transactions exceeding $1 billion in value in the Southeast and Carolinas.  

Justin Good joins HFF as a managing director specializing in multifamily housing and land investment sales opportunities throughout the Carolinas and the Southeast. Prior to Cushman & Wakefield, he worked with Cassidy Turley where he was instrumental in building its Carolinas Land Services team.  During the past seven years, he has completed more than $500 million in transactions throughout the region.  

Also joining the Carolina’s multifamily investment sales team is Allan Lynch, who joins as a director. While at Cushman & Wakefield, Lynch founded the Cushman & Wakefield Thalhimer multifamily division. Prior to his time at Cushman, he worked with Engler Financial Group of Atlanta, where he was part of a team that closed more than $1.5 billion in investment sales and joint venture equity transactions.  

Scot Humphrey, who joins the firm as a director, will work closely with Ryan Clutter in HFF’s Carolinas office investment sales practice while also working with Norvell and Clutter on industrial transactions. With more than 10 years of experience, Humphrey has been involved in investment sales transactions totaling more than $1 billion.  He began his career in commercial real estate in Washington, D.C. as an analyst with Cassidy Turley.  

Additional team members include two real estate analysts, Sarah Godwin and Patrick Nally; a graphics coordinator, Sarah Spain and a production coordinator, Deanna Connolly.

CBRE Group Announces Two Executive Leadership Appointments

CBRE Group, Los Angeles, announced that Daniel Queenan will assume new leadership responsibilities as chief operating officer of CBRE Global Investors, the company’s investment management subsidiary.

Queenan relocated back to the U.S. after serving as CEO of the Asia-Pacific region for the past two years. He will work closely with Ritson Ferguson, recently named chief investment officer, and the entire CBRE Global Investors leadership team on all facets of the business. He will serve on CBRE Global Investors’ Executive Committee and Global Investment Committee.

Steven Swerdlow will assume new responsibilities as CEO of the Asia-Pacific region. He will oversee all operations in the regionand will play a key role on the Asia-Pacific Strategic Group. A 25-year veteran of CBRE, Swerdlow has held a range of senior leadership positions at the company. He will maintain his management responsibilities for CBRE’s U.S. Western Division and will split his time between Asia Pacific and the U.S.
