MBA Members Form New Compliance Association

Two long-time Mortgage Bankers Association members announced formation of a new trade association, the Mortgage Compliance Professionals Association of America.  

Ben Slayton, a veteran chief compliance officer and publisher of Mortgage Compliance magazine, and Burton Embry, executive vice president and chief compliance officer with Primary Residential Mortgage Inc., Salt Lake City, Utah, announced the launch of MCPAOA, “a new compliance association for Compliance Professionals by Compliance Professionals.” Burton will serve as the new association’s president.  

MCPAOA consists of a diverse membership of regulatory compliance professionals, in-house legal counsels and risk management, quality assurance and loan servicing compliance professionals, who work for the nation’s state and federally chartered banks and credit unions and the nation’s independent mortgage banking firms and other mortgage industry.  

The association’s mission is to provide (i) a forum for members to enhance their professional skills and keep up with current trends; (ii) peer-to-peer sharing to exchange ideas and best practices; (iii) monthly and annual meetings to bring forth the latest issues that will help members to better execute their day-to-day business responsibilities and help improve their institution’s performance and financial stability; and (iv) support for and directly work with the Mortgage Bankers Association’s advocacy for legislative and regulatory issues creating  one voice with one vision for the industry to speak to the legislative and regulatory bodies of government.  

“Both Slayton and Embry are long-time MBA members and their goal for the new group is to work with the MBA to complement and strengthen the delivery of quality education and peer sharing opportunities for mortgage compliance professional,” said Pete Mills, MBA senior vice president of residential policy and member engagement.
