Nanci Weissgold Appointed Chair of MORPAC for 2025-2026
The Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) announced that Nanci L. Weissgold, Partner and Co-Chair of the Alston and Bird law firm’s Financial Services Group, has been appointed chair of the Mortgage Bankers Association Political Action Committee (MORPAC) for the 2025-2026 election cycle.
Weissgold was appointed by Laura Escobar, MBA’s 2025 Chair and President of Lennar Mortgage, and Christine Chandler, MBA 2025 Chair-Elect and Executive Vice President, Chief Credit Officer and Chief Operating Officer with M&T Realty Capital Corporation. Weissgold succeeds Owen Lee, CEO of Success Mortgage Partners, Inc., who served as MORPAC Chair during the 2023-2024 election cycle and is currently MBA’s 2025 Vice Chair.
“It is truly an honor to congratulate Nanci for her well-deserved appointment as the next MORPAC Chair. Nanci is an acknowledged financial services and housing policy expert who has been a steadfast supporter of MORPAC and of policies that strengthen our industry,” said Escobar. “Nanci’s leadership and vision will be instrumental in driving MORPAC’s growth and engagement and ensuring the successful pursuit of our industry’s legislative priorities during the 2025-2026 election cycle.”
“I also want to thank Owen Lee for completing a remarkable term of service as MORPAC Chair these last two calendar years,” added Escobar. “As our industry battled through adverse market conditions, Owen’s charisma and exceptional dedication to advancing our members’ policy priorities helped contribute to MORPAC’s impressive fundraising totals and increased level of member engagement.”
Weissgold has been a consistent MORPAC contributor for several years and has lent her specific expertise at numerous MBA conferences, including the Servicing Solutions Conference & Expo, the Legal Issues and Regulatory Compliance Conference, and the Compliance and Risk Management Conference. Her support for MORPAC’s peer-to-peer fundraising campaign strategy among the attendees of these conferences and within her personal network have tangibly increased participation among MBA’s associate membership.
Outside of MORPAC, Weissgold also co-chairs MBA’s Legal Issues and Regulatory Compliance Committee, which identifies, studies, and evaluates key legal, regulatory, and quality assurance issues and trends related to the residential mortgage lending industry.
Last October, Weissgold was also honored as the 2024 recipient of MBA’s Schumacher-Bolduc Award, an accolade given to individuals who exemplify MORPAC’s mission and display commitment to expanding the reach of MBA’s political advocacy efforts. She is a current member of the MBA Board of Directors.
