RentCafe, Santa Barbara, Calif., found Overland Park, Kan., was the top city for renters’ interest in July, the second time this year it has unseated perennial favorite Minneapolis.
RentCafe uses data from its site to rank interest from renters in the 150 largest American cities. It considers the availability of apartments, listing views, apartments saved and other personalized searches and information.
July saw a significant surge in interest in Overland Park, with more than double the number of apartments favorited compared with July 2023. There was an 11% drop in available listings, and 30% bump in saved personalized searches.
Despite being moved down the list, Minneapolis still saw significant activity, including listings attracting 21% more traffic year-over-year despite 20% fewer rentals on RentCafe’s site.
No. 3 was Detroit, No. 4 was Washington, D.C., and No. 5 was Atlanta.
Rounding out the top 10 are Cleveland, Louisville, Ky., Cincinnati, Indianapolis and Reno, Nev.
