The Week Ahead—Nov. 23, 2020
Good morning and happy Monday! Congratulations—you’ve almost made it to Thanksgiving—which, considering how this year has gone, is worth giving thanks indeed.
Speaking of Thanksgiving: MBA offices will be closed this Thursday, Nov. 26 and Friday, Nov. 27 in observance of the Thanksgiving holidays. MBA NewsLink will not publish those days, and MBA Commercial/Multifamily NewsLink will not publish on Nov. 2. On behalf of MBA officers and staff, have a safe and healthy holiday long weekend; MBA—and NewsLink—will return on Monday, Nov. 30.
If it’s Thanksgiving Week, it means Washington, D.C. is about as quiet as it gets. Congress is in recess; the House is expected back in town on Monday, Nov. 30, while the Senate appears to be adjourned for the year. Looking ahead, the Electoral College meets on Nov. 14 to elect the next President (and, barring truly extraordinary circumstances—even for 2020—that should be Joseph Biden Jr.); the 117th Congress convenes Jan. 3 and President-Elect Biden is inaugurated on Jan. 20.
Meanwhile, federal agencies and private companies will cram a week’s worth of economic reports into the next three days. MBA releases its Weekly Forbearance and Call Volume Survey (Monday, 4:00 p.m. ET) and its Weekly Applications Survey this Wednesday, Nov. 25 at 7:00 a.m. ET.
Events/reports of interest this week:
Monday, Nov. 23: MBA Forbearance & Call Volume Survey (4:00 p.m. ET); Chicago Fed National Activity Index
Tuesday, Nov. 24: S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller Home Price Indices; Consumer Confidence; Richmond Fed Survey; Philadelphia Fed Non-Manufacturing Survey.
Wednesday, Nov. 25: MBA Weekly Applications Survey; New Residential Sales; Gross Domestic Product; Advance Durable Goods; U. of Michigan Consumer Surveys (final)
